The movie addresses the idea of patriarchy, men in Barbie world. I think what Gerwig is doing is actually very nuanced and almost compassionate. She was giving a really nuanced empathetic explanation for why some of these ideologies are attractive. The loud announcements of it as sort of man-hating and all of that's fair.
