In North Indian society, there's like, you know, village exogamy, it's very patrolocal. The term for these women marrying into families, they call them the stranger. Their husband might have died, and you recapitulate this pattern of oppression, marginalization, testing. Women will really penalize one another if they're not perceived as very kind. This can have consequences in modern environments where women need to be more assertive.
