Diderot and Vanini

Diderot borrows from Spinoza, Cassendi and that wonderful Italian Viviani or Vanini. They were simply courageous thinkers they were people who stood a little bit outside of society you had to be a little bit afraid I mean it's not by accident that Descartes moved to the Netherlands. Pierre Baille actually came from southern France but he was Protestant in a time when it was very difficult for Protestants to live in France so he sought refuge in the Netherlands. He compiled a huge dictionary now that doesn't sound so amazing but  he does it in a way that was really revolutionary because as a reader involved in this huge discussion spanning centuries there is no received wisdom but
