How does rommel rise up to become the desert fox actually how does he even get that nickname? He attacks and he pushes forward when no one thought that that would be possible. The key thing here is that he's just acted with extreme boldness against a british army which during the course of the interwar period has become very cautious. Richard O'Connor was the only commander on the british side who was as vigorous perhaps as Rommel had been.
