I wanted to sort of be in the room with a certain kind of film from that period. But I didn't want it to be a purely representational recreation of that era. The intention was to bring you out of a space in which you have a 90 degree grid, essentially. A world in which things are that squared off. Like, I know that sounds incredibly pretentious, but that really felt wrong to me to have images that were that sort of square.
