But none the less, even if one rejects those theories, there clearly has to be some inspiration here. And for instance, the grayl mass scene, where 12 nights are able to partake of a eucharistic mass with the grail at the culmination of the vulgate cycle, it sounds extremely reminiscent to the institution of the crusading nightly orders. There's a historical connection through these patrons of the grail story who were themselves crusaders.
