Loneliness isn't the absence of people, it's the absence of connection. You can be in a busy city like new york and surrounded by people constantly but still feel isolated and alone. Vice versa: you could be in alaska, surronded by nobody, but feel not feel isolated, and feel very connected to other things. And that's probably what stands out the most in my mind, and what gets people pondering the deepest.
