Even though drugs are cheaper than ever before, there is still so much money to be made from the drug trade. In Afghanistan, where not only has the US spent almost $8 billion cracking down on opium production, but it has a substantial military force based there, opium production reached historic record levels in 2013. Thanks to the ease with which prescription opiates have been handed out by doctors, there is a new generation of drug users who have turned to things like heroin when the prescription drugs don't work anymore.
