The Western Mediaeval Spirit

The western mediaeval spirit is so difficult to contain. There was a moment in the byzantine, where there was this high emotionalism which was brought into the church. The development of opera and ballets actually bring the viewer into a position of just passive aesthetic contemplation. And although you can have internal emotions while your your watch, at first, maybe the opera, there was some participation,. But it gradually was moving towards what we have now, which is the concert hall, which you sit and watch. It's something that i feel gets lost in the furthering century.
