Is There an Over-Prescription Crisis?

I am just always struck by the question of why there's such a potent sense among so many people that they're just over-prescription and that we are treating people who shouldn't be treated. This is often a belief that's very strongly held by people who do not have mental illnesses themselves. And I'm never sort of sure why they're so convinced. But also it's intended to with a certain level of emotion that I think is strange for people who don't have any specific mental connection to it.
