"It wasn't never clear that he was just going totally downhill until obviously recently. And biologists from the California Department of Wildlife and the National Park Service noticed that he was exhibiting on P-22 behavior," she says. "When he kept doing it over and over again, and he still had that mange kind of look, I mean, that's when like, I was like, oh, this may go in a bad direction and maybe the beginning of the end."
