What Are We Dying For?

At the first all russian congress of soviets of workers and soldiers deputies on june third, 19 17, just over a thousand delegates from across russia convened in petrograd. Of the 777 delegates whose party affiliation we know, there were 200, a 85 srs, 200, forty eight mensheviks, a hundred and five bolsheviks and 32 menshevik internationalists. And though they supported calls for the government to make every effort to achieve a general peace, they were ultimately as patriotically committed to the war as kerensky. The coalition government was better in so far as it included socialists, but it was a deed half done.
