Mary, the student, thought of herself as a proud pole but her devotion to study was taking over. The home her sister shared with her polish activist husband was a whirlwind of activity. On winter nights, i studied while dressed in every stitch of clothing i owned. All this time, her father, expecting his youngest daughter's promised return, kept a bigger apartment than he needed in warsaw. But she wasn't about to leave paris. Now, father wanted me back home, but i got a scholarship to stay on and do my masters in mathematics.
