The Self-Known Self and the Immune System

The concept of holobiont is that as an organism we need other organisms to be healthy. Our immune systems are incredibly heterogeneous, so it's not the DNA that shapes us but our experiences during development and time. We don't have the same self when we're newborns that we do when we are five years old or ten years old or a hundred years old. In the midst of this chaos in which we live, it's the immune system's job to make sure we stay on course with everything around us. So clearly an update is required.
