The Harms of Institutional Departmentalization in the Renaissance

There's this whole claim that there was a time at which you could know all science and that didn't last. And I think this question of whether people choose to know a broad range of things or specialize in particular things is as much as the question kind of indicated an institutional question as an intellectual question. The more you know, the easier it is to learn more stuff, because the more something new that comes in is fitted into sort of a matrix that you already developed. Gosh, that might not be a surprise given these live streams that I'm trying to do here.
