Norman Mailer seems to be the picture of what you said earlier that you thought of as a writer. I mean, maybe we need to do a Mailer episode at some point, but from the daily that I read, I don't want to do that. The essay that follows the starting line is basically a repudiation of any consolation the words may have held. It's about how we delude ourselves with stories rather than a pay on to the vital life-giving force of literature with a capital L.
