The Ai Moment for Deep Learning
In two thousand 13 or so, two thousand 15 or soam there was the major break through that yuno machines could understand images better than humans could. This was around the publication ofno deep learning models applied to age net, the major computer vision competition. And in many ways, back then, it felt like computer vision was going through its ai moment, being completely transformed with deep learning methods. In bio now, because we have access to huge amounts of data, whether its imaging or sequencing or patient data, and then extremely performative models and compute, which together look and smile.
