Are the Origins of Earth's Water Extraterrestrial?

Scientists and chemists have been asking for a very long time where Earth's water came from. One theory is that once the planet became volcanically active on the surface, water vapor would spew into the atmosphere. But math can't account for the quantity of water in that way because there wasn't enough to begin with. Other theories include comets or asteroid impacts which released their water onto the planet.
