The Dissociative Effects of General Anesthesia on Brain Activity

There seems to be these things where some kind of reduction in brain activity correlates with just not having any experiences. You are never going to plan and induce a near-death experience on purpose by stopping one's heart. So it's something that you cannot do prospectively. And so what about deep sleep? What about general anesthesia when you are totally unconscious? Well, the problem there is that you can never say that you were totally unconscious. You can only say that you don't remember having had any experience.
