The judge didn't want the book to be read in front of the woman who had published the book because you don't want to offend her sensibilities. When the passages were read, two of the judges found them incomprehensible. Over time, it was like the entire artistic establishment was on his side. It seemed kind of ridiculous to fight back against it. But it took time.
