Is High HDL a Good Thing?
There are two subclasses of HDL. One is a larger, more buoyant particle thought to be less atherogenic or plaque producing. And then HDL three, which is a smaller denser particle that may be more atherogenic. There's some data that these very high HDL levels are seen in some populations that are associated with polymorphisms that are themselves associated with longevity. So I don't think we know a clear answer on that, whether it's a good or bad thing.
