The Rise and Fall of Hatsune Miku
By July of 2008, the Hatsune Miku software was selling about 300 copies a week. Music retailers like Tower Records Japan opened up sections devoted to vocal aid music in their stores. A compilation featuring her voice became the first vocal aid album to top the charts when it debuted in May 2010. Sony Music Direct Japan began selling the Japanese pop brand Supercell single The World is Mine featuring Hatsune MikU on Apple iTunes American Store in 2011. It soon reached number 7 in the top 10 singles chart for world music. She also used the song for an online American commercial too, further spreading Miku into the West.
