The Failures of Literary Prizes
The Orange Prize was set up in 91 as an 'affirmative action' for women writers. John and I were discussing whether we think it should still exist today. It's interesting actually that men are kind of disproportionately winners of literary prizes. And yet, women buy kind of two thirds of the books that are sold here and America. So people do still care about these prizes. Absolutely.
