Gigi Roggero’s latest book Italian Operaismo: History, Genealogy, Method promises to be the strongest introduction to its difficult subject matter available in the English language. Operaismo as a moment in the history of anticapitalist struggle is a source of great hope and enthusiasm among today’s militants, not only because of the academic success of its most famous proponents (such as Mario Tronti and Toni Negri), but because of its intransigent refusals, within and against labour, the state, and capitalism.
In this episode, Gigi discusses his new book with Kenny and the book’s translator, Clara Pope, focussing on the relation of Operaismo to anarchism, Bordigism, and other Marxist ‘heresies’, and the ‘third’ great figure of Operaismo: Romano Alquati.
