The Modal Verbs
When we are asking a request, request for help, perhaps, we can say would or could. For example, it might rain. If the sun comes out, I would be happy in that situation. Usually there is an if sentence implied, even if we don't say it. The final category is possibility. This is kind of connected to conditional sentences. So he might miss the train. He might go to school. It's kind of like a 50-50 chance. And this is more polite than can. Can you help me? Could is a little bit more polite. We'll come back to that in a minute.
