The Immediacy of Mystery in Zen Buddhism
When we try to reduce these traditions to believe, it actually distances people from the immediacy of life. Zen was a movement that emerged in China about a thousand or more years after the Buddha. And so our meditations in Korea were, you know, for three months, twice a year, we would just sit in a darkened room and ask ourselves, what is this? And rest with that question, nothing else.
