We don't know where tetanus emerged, but we do know that it doesn't really seem to change all that much. Its ge nome is highly conserved, which is actually, i think, something that we've seen for a few other spore formers. And with the bachlinum toxin, it's found in many different strains of lastridium, where as yet the tetanus neurotoxin only in clustr dam tetana. So both clustradium tetani and clustradium bachelinu are anarobic soil dwelling, and they produce this deadly neuritoxin.
