A lot of it was developing itself as I wrote. And the thing that's great about writing a book is you can always go back and add things. Sometimes if you plan too much at the outset, it also becomes overwhelming to think of writing like, oh, wow, I have to include all this stuff rather than seeing how would this naturally weave its way into the story. "I've just experienced it in books before where it feels like the writer is just assuming I know everything," she says.
