A muff is something a woman would wear to keep her hands warm. She's wearing gloves already, but they're thin gloves. Women wouldn't have worn big, thick wool gloves. They would have worn dainty women's nighttime gloves,. Then they would have used a muff just to appear a little bit more delicate. Now, is this something that was common?
