John Avlon: What is a realist? And what would be different about an American foreign policy that operated along realist lines compared to, say, hawkish lines or what we have today? Avlon: My view is I'm a realist. I'm sometimes I'm a hawk, Sometimes I'm a dove, even on the same problem. He says U.S. form policy over time has tended to be a blend of realism and liberal internationalism.Avlon: The last one would be isolationists because I think it's often defamatory if people don't believe in using force for good.
