In the top 1% of income distribution, the single most common job in there is doctor. The idea that busyness has become the badge of honor is a big sort of psychomoral draw for elites to get into this system. Once you get rich enough, more money is not a very good draw if it's not connected to something that gives you status because you already have everything you need materially. And then an excluded middle class doesn't get the social status associated with work now.
