The Importance of Reading Aloud

The rabbis read very differently than we do, at least when it came to reading the Torah scroll. The directionality of meaning was different. It worked more like a bar mitzvah kid might read Torrance and a god for the first time. So even great rabbis like Abbegiva would memorize what they were going to say in sacred literature.
