Are You Trying to Tell a New Story?

The writer says it's a valuable question for gaming culture and nerd culture more generally to ask itself. Do we want to tell stories that make sense of the things we used to love or help us remember the reasons we were so drawn to them? The fact that this character is black and gay the whole time is like something we are told about her rather than something that we are shown through the actions that she takes in the book. It doesn't seem related or earned because anything else.
