Bringing in a Special Counsel?
Attorney General Merrick Garland said today he's not going to be involved in the day to day supervision of special counsel, Jack Smith. But there are actually regulations with respect to the special counsel. If the special counsel recommends that somebody be charged and the Attorney General disagrees under those regulations, the Attorney General would have to notify members of Congress if he overrules the judgment of the special Counsel. There's an additional layer of notification there that's not always the case in regular old prosecutions.
