The station's location on the west side in the old tenderloin was far less convenient and even out of the way than grand central, which was at forty second street ind park. The railroads were in a totally different position, because over at grand central, they could develop the air rights around the station and above the station. And so they adopted for this plan just to demolish the station and put the train station underground.
