The Cost of Peer Review

Every year researchers are collectively spending 15,000 years reviewing papers. That doesn't include time spent doing things like formatting papers for each individual journal or doing this multiple times when your paper is rejected. So there's a huge cost and that's just the cost of the time that it takes people to review the papers.
