How Well Religion Works in This Context
We do physical touch all the time, not usually with strangers. We've adapted to grooming patterns and hand movements of grooming in things like caressing and touching and hugging and patting. And religion comes into that mix as what seems like a very powerful addition to it. The individual is the one who is benefiting now, because we know they're getting all the benefits of living in a group - through being able to solve the problem of keeping the group together.
