Drape Domania Was Denied From Black People
Most white people who bought and sold black people did not think they were capable of having the same feelings as them or even getting the same diseases. It was impossible for them to conceive any sort of shared experience with the people they enslaved. Denying nostalgia in black people directly contributed to scientific racism. Instead of diagnosing enslaved people with the same disease as soldiers fighting in the Civil War, pseudoscientific terms like drape domania appeared in medical journals. Drape domania was strictly created to pathologize black people who sought freedom.
