The History of Plato

The Peloponnesian War was fought between 434 and 404. The Deleon League is often referred to as the Athenian Empire, but it wasn't an empire in the classic sense of the term. After the war, the city was ruled for a year by the 30 tyrants who did some nasty purges. This explains the execution of Socrates, a formative event in Plato's life.
