The Trappen of Führing, Staff Officers Duty in the Field, 1949

The Trappen of Führing is effectively the overall tactical and operational doctrine to the Wehrmacht. And interestingly, they just never ever revised it. So I think it's telling you that it is entirely possible to wage wars with very, very little explicit process. A really, really good example of that is Normandy landings. The initiating directive is tiny, effectively five sides, or is then a huge amount of staff work done. But in 1949 we only had the two and a half pages, not the 76 pages and the eight page praysy.
