Governor Newsom signed in a bill that aims to protect children's data from tech companies. The bill prohibits tech platforms collecting the geolocation of users under 18 years old it forces them to use as strict as privacy settings. A lot of people I respect who really are against this bill because it says there's more surveillance. And they thought it was sort of a hammer, just way too big a hammer.
Kara and Scott discuss the impacts of a Texas social media law, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s bill to protect children’s data. Also, Adobe acquired Figma. Plus, a mega stock crash at Meta, a bizarre harassment case for eBay, and Russian troll’s impact on the Women’s March. Friend of Pivot, Marta Tellado, stops by to talk about her new book, “Buyer Aware: Harnessing Our Consumer Power for a Safe, Fair, and Transparent Marketplace.”
