The Power Dynamics of the Church and the State

There's a strong incentive to go along with its dictates, so that you're not the nail to its hammer. And then the state, by virtue of its ability to effectively siphon or steal the wealth of people has a tremendous amount of power and force. You acquiesce, you kind of fall victim to a Stockholm syndrome sort of thing, where you kind of love your captor.
