For NetHack, the agent trained by watching humans play. Jung says through pre-training, they can form a good baseline for how to associate language descriptions with things that are happening in the world. Simpler settings only showed a slight edge, but in NetHack's complicated dungeons, the agent learned many times faster and reached a skill level that the classic approach couldn't.
