The Importance of Youth Participatory Action Research

The use of social science research skills positions youth as experts, critical consumers and producers of knowledge. It has been argued that youth participatory action research is useful in efforts to address racial, ethnic, and class-based equity concerns. There must be a careful attention to adults sharing of power with students throughout the process. This represents distributive justice such that adults, teachers, youth workers are appropriately understood to be the co-learners and facilitators rather than primary decision makers.
