String Theory and Extra Dimensions

The only theory that makes sense of quantum mechanics and relativity together is string theory. String theory can only be consistently defined in a space time that has dimensions more than four. So if this extra dimension success, they need to be compactified. And so there could have been other vacuuming theories where those extra dimensions maybe were infinite in extent like the ones we experienced.
