i can't think of any field that would reap more reward over time than learning soul for development as as a skill. There's zero downside o learning to codek, all your doings, you're investing some time. At the very worst, you're goin to walk out of this with an kind of an engineer's mind set. You'll be better at managing them successfully. And they'll have more respect for you if you can just pull up a chair next to him and, lik, help him debug something real quick....
