I think sometimes it's safer to take a risk when you know not necessarily the stakes aren't as high, but you're not going to lose your paying gig if things don't pan out. Especially in a mentorship position, you want to give good advice and see the person who mentoring succeed. So I've actually been doing some coaching of other people who want to start consultancies... Can you volunteer and do some pro bono mentoring as a way to get into it?
