The Challenges of Exploratory Design in Magic
Part of exploratory design is us sort of having to walk through what that means. The biggest problem of vanilla matters is the nature of something being vanilla means there's no text on it, and trying to make the thing you care about be a thing that doesn't have text on it just causes issues. So we had to find a lot of solutions in Shrek's Haven. We making token creatures are instant and sorcery, but the token creature acts like a creature. You could have creatures that could also affect you spells, so that even though it's a creature you're not going to function as a creature, it also produces a spell or gets you a spell.
