The power process consists of four parts, three of which are necessary and one of which isn't always present, but is present a lot of the time. So you need to be able to autonomously set a goal. You need to go about achieving that goal in a way that you have autonomously chosen. People do need to extend effort to achieve goals and to feel good about it. And the power process in our society at the moment has been subverted to a great degree.
