Navier-Stokes Equations and Turbulence

A plane has a Reynolds number of about 10 million for a big plane and it has above around some of about 100 usually get turbulent flow. So it's kind of a complicated thing to model because you've got to be able to deal with all these different scales of behavior. There are lots of approximations that have been made that work fairly well but they're not deeply principled versions of sort of a correct modeling of the Navier-Stokes equations.
